When we want to make complex and delicate parts, our preferred process is CNC vowin.cn/en/News/news1251.html' target='_blank'>machining. CNC machines are also divided into three-axis, four-axis and five-axis machining, depending on the complexity and precision requirements of the parts. Five-axis machining is the most efficient because it operates in a more complex and flexible manner. And the five-axis CNC machining center is one of the types of CNC machining center to meet the special needs of CNC machining.
What’s 5-Axis CNC Machining?
Five-axis machining is a mode of CNC machine tool processing. Compared to the common three-axis machining (X,Y,Z three degrees of freedom), five-axis machining refers to machining parts with complex geometry, which requires the tool to be able to position and connect at five degrees of freedom.
Some reasons of choosing 5-axis CNC Machining
1. Suitable for manufacturing complex components
Five-axis machining is often used in aerospace field to process more complex parts such as body parts, turbine parts and impeller parts with free surface. The five-axis machine tool can process the different sides of the workpiece without changing the position of the workpiece on the machine tool, which can greatly improve the processing efficiency of prismatic parts.
2.Maintain the best cutting state of the tool and improve the cutting conditions
When the part has a curved surface, the cutting state becomes progressively worse as the triaxial cutting tool moves toward the top or the edge of the workpiece. To maintain optimal cutting conditions here, the table is rotated. If we want to complete an irregular plane, we must rotate the table many times in different directions. As can be seen, the five-axis machine tool also avoids the ball-end milling cutter center point linear velocity of 0, to achieve better surface quality.
3.Reduce the clamping times, a fixture can complete five sides at the same time processing
In the actual processing, only one clamping, processing accuracy is easier to be guaranteed. At the same time, due to the shortening of the process chain and the reduction of the number of equipment in the five-axis machining center, the number of fixtures, workshop area and equipment maintenance costs are also reduced. This means that you can complete more efficient and higher quality processing with fewer fixtures, less plant area and less maintenance costs!
